  • Resistance when girthing or saddling
  • Refusing, bucking, or rearing when mounting or starting off
  • Refusing to move forward, bucking, or rearing while riding
  • Kicking at the riders leg
  • Sensitivity when touching or grooming the back or croup
  • Tense back or locking the back during movement
  • Difficulty with bending or lateral movements
  • Difficulty with transition to canter
  • Irregularity or loss of impulsion in canter
  • Cross-cantering or going in the wrong lead
  • Hind limb abnormalities (slow, asymmetry step length)
  • Reduced back and hindquarter muscle development
  • Poor transitions or loss of rhythm
  • Pelvic asymmetry or tilting
  • Problems with collection, jumps, or changes of gait
  • Rider experience of feeling “stuck,” “against the hand,” “carrying the croup high,” or “losing propulsion”
  • Recurring or unexplained lameness
