The cause of poor performance or abnormal behavior may not be found in the musculoskeletal system but in the horse’s internal health. In some cases, it may result from a combination of orthopedic, internal, and muscular factors. Issues involving the respiratory system, heart, metabolism, muscles, or digestive tract can significantly affect a horse’s function and overall workload tolerance.
Radiography
Radiographic examination is an essential technique for detailed visualization of bones and joints.
Ultrasonography
Ultrasonography is an imaging technique used to assess tendons, muscles, joints, ligaments, nerves, and cartilage. In internal medicine, it is used to examine the heart, lungs, and abdominal organs. This technique allows us to detect subtle abnormalities and closely monitor injuries.
UTC (Ultrasound Tissue Characterization)
This imaging technique objectively maps the structure and load capacity of tendons. Unlike traditional ultrasound, UTC not only provides a visual image of the tendon but also classifies tissue quality using advanced computer-based analysis.
CT (Calibra CT Dual Energy)
A CT scan allows us to create three-dimensional images with exceptionally high resolution, making even subtle abnormalities in bone, joint, cartilage, and surrounding tissues visible.
MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnet and radio waves to produce detailed images of soft tissues and bone.
Scintigraphy
Scintigraphy, also known as a “bone scan,” is an advanced imaging technique that helps detect areas of increased bone activity. This allows subtle injuries to be identified at an early stage—sometimes years before they become visible on an X-ray.
