You do not need a referral to make an appointment with us.

The costs of our services depend on the type and duration of the examination and treatment. Please contact us by phone for an estimate.

You can pay by debit card, credit card or in cash.

We aim to schedule an appointment within 14 days. For information about availability, we kindly ask you to contact us by phone.

We examin and treat horses and ponies of all breeds and levels.

It is possible to have X-ray, MRI, CT, and scintigraphy images evaluated by our specialist. Ultrasound examinations are dynamic, which makes it often difficult to reliably assess ultrasound images taken by third parties.

Through our website, you can submit a request for evaluation (LINK), after which the images can be sent via wetransfer.com or by email. Preferably, the images should be provided in DICOM format. The findings will be documented in a report and discussed verbally with the client. A fee applies for this evaluation.

Attention! The findings may not be used in the context of legal proceedings.

Our center is located at Hooge Wijststraat 7 in Heesch. See our

for directions and parking options. You can reach us directly via the Nistelrode exit on the A50, which allows you to avoid driving through the village of Heesch.

Visit to SMDC

Upon arrival at SMDC, your horse will be stabled in a spacious, clean box and you will be welcomed by our team. The consultation begins with an intake, during which we discuss the complaint, medical history, and your expectations. This is followed by a structured examination process and additional imaging. If indicated, treatments will be carried out directly afterwards. At the end of the consultation, you will receive a written report and clear explanation of the findings and the rehabilitation plan.

Client Experience.

Your horse can use a stable before and after the examination or treatment. The stables are located at the back of the premises on the right-hand side. It is also possible for your horse to stay overnight for dental treatment, internal medicine examinations, or diagnostic imaging.

We kindly ask you to arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment. This allows you to settle your horse in the stable and gives us time to register or check your details in our system. This helps us keep appointments running on schedule. Are you coming for a prepurchase examination? Then we ask you and the other parties to arrive at least 30 minutes in advance. If you are delayed, please contact us by phone as soon as possible.

We recommend bringing someone with you who can handle the horse and, if needed, assist with loading. If you let us know in advance, we can try to have a staff member available to present the horse.

  • Orthopedic examination: About 2 hours
  • Orthopedic check-up (follow-up appointment): About 1 hour

  • Internal sports medicine examination: About 1 to 2 hours

  • CT examination (general anesthesia): The horse needs to stay 1 night for observation.
  • Scintigraphy: The horse needs to stay for 2 days (due to radioactivity).

We kindly ask you to contact us by phone as soon as you know you cannot attend a scheduled appointment. This way, we can work together to find a new date. If you cancel an appointment within 24 hours, we are obliged to charge a fee. This also applies to prepurchase examinations.

To ensure incisor and molar extractions are performed with the greatest care, these procedures are only carried out at our center. Here we have not only extensive expertise but also state-of-the-art equipment and imaging techniques, such as X-ray and CT, available when needed.

Preparing for an appointment

  1. Please email all information related to previous examinations—such as X-rays, ultrasound images, and reports—before the appointment to

    contact@sporthorsemdc.com

, including your name and your horse’s name.
  2. Enter your details and your horse’s information on our website under

    treatment agreement

    .
  3. Bring your horse’s passport with you to our center. This is legally required when transporting the horse and allows us to correctly register the horse in our system.

For some internal medicine examinations, we ask that your horse be fasted beforehand (no feed or water). You will receive further instructions when scheduling the appointment.

Treatment and additional examination

SMDC offers all types of blood tests. The most common parameters can be analyzed in our own laboratory, with results available the same day. For other tests, we work with external laboratories. These results are usually available within 1–3 working days, depending on the type of test. Results of prohibited substance testing during a prepurchase exam are available within 10–15 working days. Through an expedited procedure, results can be available within 5–10 working days, which involves additional costs.

Vaccinations against influenza, tetanus, and rhinopneumonia are available at our center. On request, these can also be provided during a dental home visit. Registration of the vaccination in the FEI app involves additional costs.

You can take out this insurance for your horse through our center. An application form will be sent to you by email after making the appointment.

After the visit to SMDC

If the horse has been sedated for examination or treatment, we advise not offering feed for 2 hours. Water is allowed. When the horse is fully attentive and alert after 2 hours, it may eat again.

After your visit to our center, you will receive a printed report with information about your horse’s history, the complaint(s), the findings from the clinical examination and imaging, the treatment, and the rehabilitation advice. This report will also be sent to you by email. If your horse is insured, you can forward this report to the insurance company, and no additional insurance form will need to be completed.

For optimal follow up and recovery, it is important that the referring veterinarian is informed about the findings and treatment. This ensures that your horse receives the best possible support during rehabilitation. We will inform the referring professional about the findings, treatment, and recommended rehabilitation, unless you indicate that you prefer otherwise.

All Advanced Imaging studies are reviewed by our Imaging Specialist (Diplomate ECVDI). The findings will be discussed with you by one of the SMDC specialists. You will receive the report by email within 48 hours. The referring veterinarian will also be informed.

If desired, after the examination a link can be sent to you by email. Through this link, you can view the imaging online or download it to your own computer. At your request, the imaging can also be forwarded to your veterinarian.

For reasons of confidentiality, we kindly ask for your understanding of the following: If an email address is not registered in our system, imaging and reports will only be sent after you have emailed us at

contact@sporthorsemdc.com

to confirm your request for forwarding to third parties.
