Ultrasonographic Examination
Ultrasonography is an imaging technique used to assess tendons, muscles, joints, ligaments, nerves, and cartilage. In internal medicine, it is used to examine the heart, lungs, and abdominal organs. This technique allows us to detect subtle abnormalities and closely monitor injuries.
At SMDC, ultrasound is performed at the highest level. Our team includes ISELP-certified specialists, which is the highest international recognition in equine ultrasonography.
Safe, real-time, and painless
What makes ultrasonography unique is that it is a safe, real-time, and painless examination that provides a detailed view of both superficial and deeper tissues. Our veterinarians are ISELP-certified and have extensive expertise in performing and interpreting ultrasound examinations. This level of knowledge is essential, as the interpretation of ultrasound images greatly depends on the skill, experience, and anatomical insight of the performing veterinarian.
Our specialists are highly experienced in performing ultrasound examinations of the spine and pelvic region. Using transrectal ultrasound, we can visualize the SI joints and other pelvic structures, a technique mastered by only a few veterinarians.
When do we use Ultrasonography?
At SMDC, ultrasonography is used for:
- Tendon and Ligament Injuries

- Internal Disorders (such as liver, kidneys, spleen, intestines)
Results Available Immediately
Results are available immediately and are interpreted in the context of the complete clinical picture. In many cases, we combine ultrasound with radiographic imaging, which leads to a conclusive diagnosis in over 90% of cases.
