Possible symptoms of cervical disorders
- Difficulty bending to one or both sides
- Resistance during bending or straightening
- Stiffness or reduced mobility of the neck
- Asymmetry in neck musculature
- Asymmetry or lameness
- Loss of impulsion or use of the back while riding, unwillingness to move forward
- Unstable contact or head tilting
- Spookiness or unfocused behavior
- Delayed or asymmetric use of a front leg, difference in stride length, limited shoulder freedom
- Sudden resistance, rearing, or refusing under saddle. Suddenly bolting in panic
- Sensitivity during palpation of the neck or withers
- Poor performance without a clear cause
- Recurring “unclear” lameness or coordination problems
- Swelling, increased temperature, or sensitivity around the cervical vertebrae
