Internship Sports Medicine & Revalidation

The Sporthorse Medical Diagnostic Centre (SMDC) in Heesch offers an intensive and multidisciplinary 14-month postgraduate internship program in orthopedics, diagnostic imaging, sports medicine, rehabilitation, anesthesiology, and pain management. The program is designed for veterinarians with at least two years of relevant work experience or those who have already completed a rotating equine internship.

This program provides a solid foundation for a career in equine sports medicine or as preparation for a residency.

De klinische opleiding bestaat uit meedraaien in de dagelijkse werkzaamheden, het uitvoeren van onderzoek en behandelingen, en het zelfstandig begeleiden van patiënten.

The theoretical component consists of:

  • Journal clubs and case discussions
  • Altano Academy courses and Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Days
  • Publication of one scientific article
  • Participation in SMDC’s ISELP-module

  • 5 EGAS certified Objective Gait Analysis veterinarians/physiotherapist
  • I3 daho and NVVGP gecertified equine dentists
  • 4 certified equine physiotherapists
  • 4 FES gecertified equine chiropractors
  • 3 certified farriers

Candidate requirements

Candidates must hold a degree in Veterinary Medicine (NL/BE or from elsewhere within the EU). A good command of English and/or Dutch is essential. Applications should include a letter of motivation, CV, diploma, and, if applicable, a letter of reference.

A monthly evaluation takes place with the mentor. The internship concludes with a comprehensive examination. Upon a positive final assessment, the intern will receive the “SMDC Certificate of Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Internship.”
