Speakers

BERGMAN Erik
Sporthorse Medical Diagnostic Centre – The Netherlands
DVM, Diplomate ECAR, ISELP-certified, Large Animal ECVDI Associate Member
Graduated in 1996 at the Ghent University, Belgium. He did his residency in equine reproduction and obstetrics at the Faculty of Ghent and became a diplomate of the European College of Animal Reproduction in 2003.
Erik was co-founder of Lingehoeve Diergeneeskunde, an equine referral practice in The Netherlands, and has mainly been involved in equine orthopedics and imaging. He was one of the first ISELP certified members in 2008 and is a member of the ISELP Board of Directors since 2009. In 2010 Erik is recognized by the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging as an Associated Member-Large Animals.
In 2015 Erik was co-founder of the Sporthorse Medical Diagnostic Centre -SMDC- in Heesch, The Netherlands. This center is focused on the highest quality in equine orthopedics with a multidisciplinary approach. Important values of this center are quality, teamspirit and a good working environment. In 2019 SMDC joined the Altano-gruppe, a group of leading equine clinics and practices in West-Europe.
Erik is well-known for his many lectures and presentation on (inter)national and ISELP conferences all over the world during the last two decades.

SELBERG Kurt
Colorado State University Inside Information Radiology
MS, DVM, ISELP-certified and MS Diplomate American College of Veterinary Radiology
After completing his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Washington State University, he completed an equine sports medicine internship at Virginia Equine Imaging in Middleburg, VA. He received his training in diagnostic imaging from Colorado State University and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiologists. Following his residency he completed fellowship in advanced imaging with training from Colorado State University and from Musculoskeletal Radiologists in Fort Collins, CO. He was an Assistant Professor of equine diagnostic imaging at the University of Georgia for 4 years before returning to an equine diagnostic imaging position at Colorado State University in September of 2016. His area of interest is the equine athlete, musculoskeletal diagnostic imaging and imaging guided treatment of injury. Research areas include limited view CT, equine osteoarthritis, detection of bone marrow lesions, and comparative musculoskeletal MRI.

VAN DER VELDE – HOOGELANDER Brenda
Sporthorse Medical Diagnostic Centre – The Netherlands
DVM, ISELP-certified, FES-certified, NVVGP-certified
Graduated from the University of Utrecht (the Netherlands) in 2002. She completed an internship at Dierenkliniek Emmeloord. After this she worked for eDigit, where she mainly focused on pre-purchase and orthopedic examinations. In 2006, she started working for Diergeneeskundig Centrum Oisterwijk where she became a partner a year later. As of 2016, she is part of the team at SMDC. Dr Hoogelander passed the ISELP examination in 2017. She successfully completed Focus on the Equine Spine (FES) and is a certified chiropractor. To gain more insight into the effect of teeth and teeth related problems on equine performances, Dr Hoogelander completed the NVVGP certified dentist program.
For 10 years Dr Hoogelander has been the team veterinarian for the Dutch Paradressage team which became World Champion in 2018.

OOSTERLINCK Maarten
Ghent University – Belgium
DVM, PhD, Dipl. ECVS, Dipl. ECVSMR
Qualified from Ghent University in 2004 and earned his PhD on the use of pressure plate analysis for the objective evaluation of equine locomotion. He is a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and a founding diplomate and board member of the European College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. He has published numerous scientific papers and he lectures regularly at international courses and conferences. He also serves as a scientific editor for Equine Veterinary Journal. Maarten’s daily clinical work is focused on equine orthopaedics and surgery, with a particular interest in podiatry.

VAN VEGGEL Elisabeth
Sporthorse Medical Diagnostic Centre – The Netherlands
DVM, ISELP-certified, Res. ECVDI
Graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, in Saskatoon, SK, Canada. She was born in the Netherlands but immigrated to Canada with her parents in her early teens.
Dr van Veggel is currently completing an ECVDI residency at the University of Ghent. Dr.van Veggel joint the team at SMDC in 2015 and is responsible for all imaging, including MRI and scintigraphy. She passed the ISELP Certification in 2018.

POKAR Julie
Pferdeklinik Bargteheide – Germany
DVM, PhD, ISELP-certified, Fachtierarzt für Pferde
Graduated from Veterinary Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Science of Córdoba (Spain) in 1992. After completing an externship at Pferdeklinik Telgte she started her career at Pferdeklinik Bargteheide where is currently one of the senior clinicians. In 2005 she became Fachtierarzt für Pferde. She focusses on equine orthopaedics, ultrasonographic examinations and cardiology. Since 2000 she has been a frequently invited speaker and instructor at meetings in Germany, Austria and Spain.

RHODIN Marie
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
DVM, Associated Professor, Diplomate ACVSMR, ECVSMR
Graduated in 2003 at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and is an associate Professor in equine clinical biomechanics at the department of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. She finished her PhD in 2008 where she studied horse and rider interaction with focus on head and neck position and back kinematics. She became associate professor in 2015. In 2017 she passed the board examination and was accredited as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and 2019 also European Diplomate in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. Her main research focus has been to implement objective motion analysis in the clinic for equine orthopaedic diagnostics. Her research has gain knowledge into how horses compensate for lameness, how to evaluate lameness on the circle or when ridden. Also studies on different horse populations to understand biological variation in movement symmetry.
