Dr Erik Bergman graduated from the Veterinary Faculty of Ghent, Belgium in 1996. Directly after graduation, he worked in the department of Equine Reproduction and Obstetrics in Ghent (Belgium) under supervision of Prof A. de Kruif. After working in Australia for a season as a theriogenologist, he moved his work to Lienden (The Netherlands). In 2000, Dr.Bergman was one of the founding partners of Lingehoeve Diergeneeskunde, a mixed reffering hospital. In 2003, Dr. Bergman became a Diplomate of European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR). Over the years his interest switched towards equine orthopedics. He was the founder of equine scintigraphy in the Netherlands and beside being a clinician, he became responsible for the advanced diagnostic imaging. In 2006 Dr. Bergman developed a technique to image the equine stifle using Contrast Computed Tomography (CT). In 2008, Dr. Bergman was one of the first ISELP certified members
(The International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology). In 2010, Dr Bergman became an associate member of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. With this title, he now teaches imaging residents. Dr. Bergman is (dutch)recognized equine veterinarian and so called recognized Purchase-veterinarian which means that a purchase examination in good standing with Dr. Bergman automatically qualifies with certain insurance companies. In the past couple years, Dr. Bergman was responsible for the diagnostics and orthopedic imaging of the sporthorses at equine events, such as the World Equestrian Games in Caen in 2014 and European Championships in 2015. In 2015, Dr. Bergman started with Dr. van Toor, the Sporthorse Medical Diagnostic Centre (SMDC) which is the centre of excellence for sport horses where Dr. Bergman examines and treats patients daily.
